Pune: Rising infrastructural concerns in recently merged villages in Mahalunge and Baner necessitate urgent civic attention

Infrastructural Concerns in Mahalunge and Baner

Pune, July 31, 2023: Housing societies in Mahalunge and Baner, recently merged with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), are struggling with significant infrastructural problems. Frequent drainage overflow issues in areas like Metro Jazz Society in the Mhalunge-Balewadi region have become a recurring concern, prompting pleas to PMC Pune to address these issues seriously.

Citizens are not only calling for immediate fixes but also demanding a long-term solution to these consistent issues. Social media platforms have become a battlefield, as disgruntled residents share visual evidence of the deteriorating state of their neighbourhoods, notably from Emerald Park, Balewadi, where a citizen shared videos and photos demonstrating the daily struggles caused by road conditions.

Furthermore, illegal activities have been reported in the newly constructed Vegetable and Fruit Market at Balewadi. The issue was highlighted by local resident Ameya Jagtap on his social media handles.

In response to these mounting issues, a citizen protest is planned at the PMC office on August 9th at 10:00 am. Protesters aim to draw attention to the lack of civic amenities, and also to the urgent need for garbage removal, notably in front of Kirti Elegant Society, Mhalunge Balewadi.

Residents’ concerns are a clear indication of the immediate and comprehensive civic action needed to address these infrastructural deficiencies. The situation warrants immediate attention from PMC Pune, and citizens of Mahalunge and Baner hope their voices will be heard, their concerns addressed, and their neighborhoods improved.
