Pune Municipal Corporation Announces Six New Garbage Processing Plants to Manage Growing Waste Volumes

Pune Garbage Processing Plants

PuneNow, July 31, 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has unveiled plans to construct six new solid waste management plants, each designed to process 750 metric tons of garbage per day, as per the latest official statements. The ambitious strategy is intended to address the city’s increasing waste production, which has been estimated at 2,100 to 2,200 metric tons daily.

In the Environment Status Report (ESR) for 2022-23, data showed a sharp rise in waste generation within the city. The daily waste produced in Pune is now split between 900 to 1,000 metric tons of wet waste and 1,100 to 1,200 metric tons of dry waste.

PMC’s new approach to garbage management aims to streamline the city’s waste processing systems and improve the environment. The proposed plants, which can collectively handle up to 4,500 metric tons of waste daily, will play a crucial role in this effort.

“The new facilities will significantly alleviate the burden on our existing waste management systems,” a PMC official stated. “They represent a sustainable and effective response to the escalating waste production problem in Pune.”

The proposed waste processing plants will contribute not only to cleaner streets but also to the overall enhancement of the city’s environment, adding value to PMC’s commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable Pune.
