A total of 2130 acres of land, out of the planned 3040 acres, has been acquired till now and the authorities hope to finish the land acquisition for the project by June end.

Generally in any such large scale infrastructure project, land acquisition is the most difficult and lengthy process and the state government had ensured no hurdle will be encountered in the land acquisition for this project. Farmers have been given robut compensation for giving up their land, which is one of the reasons for the voluntary surrender of land in most cases.

The upcoming international airport at Purandar will be a game changer for Pune’s connectivity to domestic and international destinations.

The airport will have:

  • Two parallel runways, each 4000 meters long and 60 meters wide, enabling all sorts of wide-body aircraft to operate from this airport.
  • The airport will have a capacity of 75 million passengers per annum, enough to cater to the demands of the growing city for the next 5 years without the further need for immediate expansion.

As per rough estimates, the new airport should be able to welcome its first commercial flight sometime in 2029. The connectivity to the airport from various city centers is being executed through a ring road, which is also expected to be ready before the airport goes live.
