FSSAI Bans Use of Pins and Staplers for Sealing Home Delivery or Take Away Food Parcels

It has been a prevalent practice of using staple pins and other metallic objects to seal food packing for take away and home delivery food orders. These pins and metallic material can be hazardous as they can get mixed with food and be ingested by consumers, causing serious harm and injury.
Taking note of this, FSSAI has issued a directive ordering all FBOs (Food Business Operators) to stop using any metallic objects or staple pins for sealing take away or home delivery packets citing food safety hazard with immediate effect.
The directive stated, “In the interest of public health and food safety, all FBOs are hereby directed to immediately discontinue the use of metallic pins/wires or any other such material for sealing, fastening, securing, or packaging any food item, food parcel, takeaway meal, bakery product, cake box, sweet box, snack packet, or any other food item or package failing which appropriate penal action shall be taken as per provisions of FSS Act, 2006 and Regulations made thereunder.”
This directive has been much appreciated by the general public with some demanding strict implementation of this rule, even in remote areas.
