The panels highlight the sweeping, futuristic curved roof exterior and lotus-inspired interior ceiling structures designed by Zaha Hadid Architects for Navi Mumbai, alongside the intricate, biophilic wooden pillars and expansive tree-like canopy structures inspired by the Bamboo Orchid at Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.

It is for the first time that two of India’s airports have been named among the seven most beautiful airports in the world in 2026 by the Prix Versailles at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

Two of India’s newest airports/terminals, namely Navi Mumbai International Airport (NAMIA) and the newly constructed Terminal 2 of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati have been included in the super-prestigious Prix Versailles World’s Seven Most Beautiful Airports List 2026.

These awards are presented at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris since 2015. The Prix Versailles selects infrastructure projects that showcase “intelligent sustainability” a combination of cultural heritage, ecological sensitivity, and futuristic functionality.

Thumping Victory for Indian Aviation Infrastructure

The inclusion of two Indian airports on such a short list of just seven airports around the world is a historic first for the Indian subcontinent. Both the airports, built and managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), India’s largest private airport operator, appear on the coveted list with other premium airports in Frankfurt (Germany), Guangzhou (China), Kandal Stueng (Cambodia), Pittsburgh (United States), and San Diego (United States).

According to the Prix Versailles panel, these selected projects demonstrate a move where airports are successfully transforming from uniform industrial standards to more of cultural and ecological hubs.

NMIA Terminal 1 was recognised for its iconic lotus-inspired architecture, futuristic design, and seamless integration of technology, art, and functionality.

The left panel depicts the terminal interior, featuring a massive, white central pillar that gracefully flares upward to form a symmetrical, leaf-shaped skylight surrounded by an organic grid ceiling, positioned directly above digital flight information display screens. The right panel displays the futuristic exterior at dusk, highlighted by a sweeping, fluidly curved metallic roof structure that mimics unfurling petals, reflecting beautifully across a foreground pond filled with pink lotus flowers under a dramatic, cloudy sky.
