Essential service vehicles such as ambulances, fire brigades, and police vehicles will be exempted.

  • Shivaji Road (Gadgil Statue stretch) will also be closed. Motorists heading towards Swargate can use J.M. Road, Tilak Road, Shastri Road, or Nehru Road through Simla Chowk.
  • Bajirao Road (Puram Chowk to Tilak Road) will be restricted, with diversions via Appa Balwant Chowk.
  • Tilak Road (Maratha Chambers to Jedhe Chowk) will remain closed to most vehicles except PMPML buses and auto-rickshaws.
  • Sanas Road, Ganj Peth Chowk, Panmala areas, and surrounding bylanes will see diversions and closures at different points.

In addition, certain smaller lanes and bylanes connecting to these routes will remain closed for through traffic.

To avoid congestion, parking has been strictly prohibited at several busy spots including:

  • Shivaji Road (Jijamata Chowk to Mandai Chowk)
  • Mandai to Shaniwar Chowk
  • Bajirao Road (Shaniwar Chowk to Futka Buruj)
  • Appa Balwant Chowk to Budhwar Chowk

Parking Arrangements for Devotees

The Traffic Police have identified multiple designated parking locations across the city where visitors can safely park their vehicles instead of leaving them on crowded streets.

Some of the major parking spots include:

  • New English School, Ramanbaug (two-wheelers)
  • Shivaji Akhada Vehicle Ground (two- and four-wheelers)
  • Desai College and Hamalwada Ground near Patrya Maruti Chowk
  • SP College, Fergusson College, Garware College, BMCC Road Jain Hostel Grounds
  • PMPML Ground, Puram Chowk (four-wheelers)
  • Nilayam Talkies, Tilak Road New English School, Sarasbaug Peshwe Park, and Ranade Path
  • Special arrangements along Dandekar Bridge, Ganeshmala, Rajaram Bridge, and riverside stretches near Gadgil Bridge

Deputy Commissioner Jadhav has urged citizens to park only in these designated spots and avoid haphazard parking, which could create blockages and delay emergency services.

Ganesh Visarjan Day Special Arrangements

On 6 September, the final day of Ganesh immersion, the city is expected to witness huge crowds, especially for the main procession starting around 9 am. Traffic police will extend road closures and regulate traffic along procession routes. Visitors are strongly advised to plan their travel in advance, make use of public transport wherever possible, and strictly follow police directions.

Appeal to Citizens

The Traffic Police have appealed to citizens to cooperate by using alternate routes, respecting no-parking zones, and following diversion signs. “Our goal is to ensure that devotees can enjoy the festival without traffic chaos, while keeping emergency routes open,” said DCP Himmat Jadhav.
