Tamhini Ghat Crosses 9,000 mm Rainfall for Third Monsoon Season in a Row
Tamhini Ghat near Pune has crossed 9,000 mm of rainfall this monsoon, reaching the mark for the third monsoon season in a row. With 30 mm rain recorded in the last one day, Tamhini’s seasonal rainfall stood at 9,018 mm as of September 18.
The rainfall data was shared by S. D. Sanap, Scientist at Climate Research and Services, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune.

According to rainfall figures shared by amateur weather forecaster Abhijit Modak, Tamhini received 369 mm rain in June, followed by 5,710 mm in July and 2,602 mm in August. Another 337 mm was recorded between September 1 and 18.
July alone accounted for more than 63% of Tamhini’s rainfall so far this monsoon. Modak said the 5,710 mm recorded during the month could potentially be Tamhini’s wettest July on record.

Based on available observations cited by Modak, Tamhini is the first station in the Sahyadri Ghats region, and the first in India, to cross 9,000 mm of seasonal rainfall during the 2026 monsoon.
