Held at Dhordo village in the Kutch district, Rann Utsav has grown from a three-day cultural gathering into a 100-day festival endorsed by Gujarat Tourism and operated by Evoke Experiences. Its main attraction is the Great Rann of Kutch, a vast salt desert that transforms into a white landscape after seasonal floodwaters evaporate.

The Great Rann and Little Rann cover approximately 7,850 square kilometres and 4,950 square kilometres, respectively. The seasonal transformation of the region creates the distinctive white salt crust known as the Safed Rann.

Dhordo received international recognition in 2023 when the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) selected it as one of the 54 Best Tourism Villages. The village also hosted the first Tourism Working Group meeting during India’s G20 presidency.

The 2026-27 festival season will run for more than four months, with November to January offering cooler weather and February to early March bringing warmer daytime temperatures. November temperatures typically range between 20°C and 28°C, while December and January generally see temperatures between 12°C and 25°C. During February and early March, temperatures can range between 18°C and 30°C.

One of the biggest attractions is the full moon experience, when moonlight reflects off the white salt flats, creating a striking silver landscape. Full moon nights are particularly popular for photography and desert walks, while dark moon nights offer better conditions for stargazing and celestial photography.

The Rann Utsav Tent City at Dhordo offers several accommodation options, ranging from luxury suites to traditional Swiss cottages. These include Darbari Suites, Rajwadi Suites, Super Premium and Premium Tents, and air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned Swiss Cottages.

The all-inclusive packages cover accommodation, meals, evening cultural entertainment and scheduled shared transfers from Bhuj.

Packages start at ₹6,300 per person for one night and two days, ₹12,600 for two nights and three days, and ₹18,900 for three nights and four days. Applicable taxes, including 18% GST, are additional. Discounts are periodically available for senior citizens and guests making early direct bookings.

Visitors can experience traditional Kutchi folk music, Garba performances and storytelling sessions at the Tent City’s central courtyard. Handicraft bazaars showcase local embroidery, mirror work and wood carving, with artisans demonstrating traditional techniques.

Adventure activities include paramotoring, hot air balloon rides, ATV rides, guided cycling, camel safaris and open-top jeep tours across designated desert areas. Visitors can also enjoy spa therapies, bonfires and dedicated relaxation areas. Special packages are available for birthdays, anniversaries and corporate retreats.

Food is another important part of the festival experience. The Tent City’s main dining hall serves strictly vegetarian meals, combining traditional Kutchi dishes with popular Indian cuisine. Local specialities include Jowar and Bajra Rotla, garlic chutney, Osaman, chutti khichdi and buttermilk. Dedicated Jain food options are also available. Guests with specific dietary requirements are advised to mention them during booking and reconfirm their preferences at check-in.

Beyond the festival venue, visitors can explore several destinations across Kutch. The nearby Banni Grasslands, Dhordo, Ludiya and Hodko villages are known for traditional Bhunga mud houses, embroidery, leather crafts, wooden furniture and other handicrafts.

History enthusiasts can visit Dholavira, a UNESCO World Heritage Site associated with the Harappan civilisation, as well as Bhuj’s Aina Mahal and the historic markets. Kala Dungar, the highest point in Kutch, offers panoramic views of the Great Rann.

Mandvi Beach and Vijay Vilas Palace, located around 60 km southwest of Bhuj, offer coastal attractions and heritage architecture. Wildlife destinations include the Kutch Wild Donkey Sanctuary, Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary, Marine National Park and Narayan Sarovar.

Bhuj is the primary gateway to Rann Utsav and can be reached by air, rail and road. Tent City packages include complimentary scheduled shared transfers from Bhuj Railway Station and Bhuj Airport.

The scheduled departures are at 8:15 am from Bhuj Railway Station, 10 am from Bhuj Railway Station and Bhuj Airport, 1:30 pm from Bhuj Railway Station, and 3:30 pm from Bhuj Airport.

Visitors must obtain a government entry permit to access the White Rann because of its location in a sensitive border region. Permits can be obtained online through the Gujarat government portal at rannpermit.gujarat.gov.in or at the physical checkpost near Dhordo by presenting valid photo identification.

Travellers are advised to use official booking channels to verify accommodation availability, package tariffs, transfers and cancellation policies. Details about the festival are available at rannutsav.net.
