Body of a Young Man Found in a Parked Car Near Sarasbaug in Pune
Pune, October 30, 2026: On Friday morning, the local police discovered the decomposing body of a 25-year-old man in a car parked along a roadside in front of Nehru Stadium, near Sarasbaug in the Swargate area of Pune.
Local residents noticed foul smell coming from a car parked at the same spot for a few days and informed the police control room. Upon receiving the alert, a police team from Swargate Police Station, along with forensic experts, reached the scene and recovered the body.
The deceased has been identified as Shubrat Bansode (25), a resident of Loni Kalbhor, Pune. The identification was done by the family of the deceased, who were notified and arrived on the spot.
Bansode left home on Monday night in a car borrowed from a friend. He did not tell his friend where he was headed to. He switched off his mobile shortly thereafter and when his family members could not reach him, they lodged a missing person’s complaint with the police.
The vehicle, bearing registration number MH12 SF 5471, is a white Maruti car that had tinted windows and locked doors. All this made it difficult for anyone to see inside. The car was found unattended at the same spot for 2-3 days.
Senior Police Inspector Yashwant Ganpatrao Nikam, Swargate Police Station is investigating the case. The body was shifted to Sasoon Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The police are examining CCTV footage to trace the car’s movements and identify who parked it at the location.
They are trying to find out if the deceased reached the discovery site alone or was there someone who drove the car to Swargate and left it there.
The officials are investigating all angles, including foul play. Post-mortem reports and forensic assessments are awaited.
