Pune: PCMC Launches Major Crackdown on Illegal Structures Along Wakad-Bhosari BRTS Road

PIMPRI-CHINCHWAD – In a significant move to reclaim public space and enforce urban planning norms, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) executed a massive anti-encroachment drive on Wednesday. Targeting the high-traffic stretch between Jagtap Dairy Chowk and Wakad Chowk on the Wakad-Bhosari BRTS road, civic authorities demolished 33 unauthorized structures, clearing approximately 6,945 square meters of land.

The operation, which commenced around 10:00 AM under the jurisdiction of the ‘D’ zonal office, saw the removal of various illegal constructions, including extensive tin sheds and commercial extensions on both sides of the arterial road.

Precision and Scale

The drive was not a random act but a calculated administrative move. Officials revealed that a comprehensive list of 104 properties in the Wakad area had been earmarked for demolition. However, the civic body maintained legal decorum by bypassing structures currently protected by active court stays.

The scale of the “clean-up” required a massive mobilization of resources:

  • Personnel: 150 civic staff, supported by 104 police officers and 60 Maharashtra Security Force jawans to maintain law and order.
  • Machinery: 16 JCB machines were deployed to expedite the demolition.
  • Safety Measures: A fire engine and two ambulances were stationed on standby as a precautionary measure.

A Warning to Illegal Builders

The drive was carried out following direct orders from PCMC Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi and supervised by Additional Commissioner Trupti Sandbhor. Zonal Officer Ashwini Gaikwad led the team on the ground.

Commissioner Suryawanshi emphasized that such actions are vital for the city’s future. “Controlling illegal construction is essential for sustainable growth in Pimpri-Chinchwad,” he stated. He urged residents to adhere strictly to building regulations, warning that the administration would maintain its zero-tolerance policy toward unauthorized developments.

Civic officials have confirmed that this is only the beginning, with further actions planned across the city to ensure planned urban development and ease traffic congestion on major transit corridors.
