Pune: Massive Fire Breaks Out at Furniture Shop in Handewadi; PMC Fire Tenders at the Spot

Pune, June 16, 2026: A massive fire broke out at a furniture shop near Hotel Shourya Wada on Handiwadi Road earlier today. Thick plumes of black smoke were seen rising from the scene of fire.
There was panic and chaos in the vicinity as this is a densely populated area. PMC dispatched four fire tenders along with water tankers to fight the fire. Emergency cooling operations are currently going on.
As per reports, the fire started from the interior assembly section of the furniture shop and spread quickly due to high concentration of inflammable material such as seasoned wood, synthetic foam, adhesives and varnish thinners.

On receiving the alert, PMC dispatched fire tenders from nearby localities, including Hadapsar, immediately to control the fire. The fire fighters had to cut through the iron grill structure to create ventilation and deploy high pressure water hoses to target the core of the fire.
No Injuries or Loss of Life
Fortunatey no injuries or loss of life has been reported from the scene of fire as all the workers managed to escape to safety before the fire could block all the entry and exit points. The crowd of onlookers was managed by the police and fire fighters to stay at a safe distance to avoid any untoward incidient.
Temporary Traffic Diversions on Handwadi Road
Commuters travelling from Hadapar towards Saswad via Handewadi road are temporarily advised to avoid this route and take alternate routes to reach Saswad.
The exact cause of fire is being determined. Though no loss of life was reported, material worth lakhs of rupees has been reduced to ashes.
