Pune’s Kayani Bakery was the latest victim of an online fraud where a scamster created a fake website in the bakery’s name and started accepting online payments for orders placed for bakery’s products.

The scamster did it so skillfully that the fake website would appear on top of search results when users searched for Kayani Bakery.

This resulted in a tsunami of complaints received by Kayani Bakery with customers either demanding the ordered products or their money back. With the number of complaints increasing every day and the business reputation getting affected, the owners of the bakery decided to lodge a police complaint.

On January 17, the Kayani Bakery owners filed a complaint at the Lashkar police station against the online fraud being done using their brand name.

When the complaints started mounting and the whole scam started getting media attention, Google intervened and took off the fraudulent website.

Ever since the fraudulent website was taken down, customer complaints have stopped and this has led the owners of the bakery to withdraw their police complaint.

Rustom Kayani, a partner in Kayani Bakery confirmed that the complaints have stopped now and they have requested the police to close their complaint.

Established in 1955, the Kayani Bakery has ranked 18th in the list of World’s 150 Legendary Dessert Places prepared by the popular food guide “Taste Atlas”.
