Pune Endures Record October Heat; Temperature Breaches 35 Degree Mark
Pune, October 09, 2026: Punekars did not expect that immediately after the monsoon’s early exit, they will be subjected to record heat in October.
Usually after the monsoon, October in Pune is a pleasant month before the winter sets in, but this year it is different!
On October 02, 2026 Shivajinagar recorded 34.8 degrees Celsius, third highest October temperature since 2014 while on October 06 it was 35.7 degrees Celsius, highest temperature ever recorded in Pune in October since 2002.
Other cities of Maharashtra are witnessing even hotter temperatures. Solapur temperature soared to 37.7 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature in October since 2002.
Ratnagiri witnessed highest ever recorded October temperature in history at 38.7 degrees Celsius on October 08, full 7.1 degrees Celsius above normal for this month. Earlier on October 02, it registered 38 degrees Celsius, shattering its 1977 record.
Mumbai Colaba recorded 37.4 degrees Celsius on October 02, highest October temperature since 2013. On the same day, Kozhikode in Keralam registered 36.5 degrees Celsius, highest October temperature in recorded history.
Entire Konkan, including Mumbai and Thane have been placed under a yellow alert for heat wave or hot and humid conditions in isolated pockets during October 09-10 period.
Residents are advised to take care of their hydration and avoid venturing out in extreme heat.
Scientists say early monsoon withdrawal, dry conditions, delayed sea breeze and persistent easterly winds are further fueling the October heat across the Indian west coast.
Overall, in its monthly weather outlook, IMD had already predicted above-normal October temperatures across most of India.
