Nashik: NMC Plans ₹5cr Firefighter Robot Acquisition to Boost Firefighting Efficiency

Nashik firefighter robot acquisition

Nashik, Feb 21, 2024: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), with a financial provision of ₹5 crore, has made a groundbreaking move for the acquisition of firefighter robots in the 2024–25 budget.

This strategic initiative aims to significantly enhance firefighting capabilities within Nashik, especially targeting areas difficult to access by traditional firefighting methods. The introduction of firefighter robots is a response to the growing challenges in urban and industrial areas, including those within the city limits and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) zones.

The decision to incorporate advanced technology into firefighting efforts comes as the city experiences rapid expansion and population growth. Recognizing the necessity for innovative solutions, the NMC plans to deploy these remotely operated robots to efficiently tackle fires in narrow lanes and reach critical points that are otherwise inaccessible to firefighters.

Following a successful demonstration by a private company last year, the NMC is eager to proceed with the procurement process. Officials have stated that the proposal will be submitted for approval to the NMC’s General Body, with the tendering process expected to be finalized within the next financial year.

Furthermore, the NMC is advancing in its efforts to procure a 90-meter hydraulic ladder, a crucial asset for addressing fires in high-rise buildings. The tender for this equipment is currently open, with an estimated cost of ₹38 crore, which encompasses a three-year maintenance plan.

These investments in firefighter robots and hydraulic ladder technology demonstrate NMC’s dedication to leveraging cutting-edge solutions for enhanced public safety and effective emergency response, ensuring Nashik’s preparedness for a range of firefighting scenarios.
