Building on the anticipation of a greener and more sustainable mode of transport, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has officially launched its air-conditioned electric bus service, connecting Nashik to Borivali. This latest development follows the initial announcement and comes as a welcome update for commuters looking for an eco-friendly travel option.

The state-of-the-art 34-seater e-buses began operations on the Borivali-Thane-Nashik route, offering a comfortable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional public transport. With ticket prices set to mirror those of the existing Hirakni (Asiad) buses, the service aims to be accessible to a wide range of passengers without compromising on comfort or convenience.

In a significant move towards inclusivity, Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, reiterated the MSRTC’s commitment to making travel affordable for all. Discounts of 50% for women and senior citizens aged between 65 to 75, along with a 100% discount for ‘Amrit’ senior citizens, underscore the initiative’s focus on supporting vulnerable groups.

The launch ceremony, held at the Khopat ST station in Thane, was attended by a host of dignitaries, including MLA Pratap Sarnaik, former MLA Ravindra Phatak, and other prominent figures, showcasing the widespread support for this transformative project.

This move is not just about providing a new bus service; it’s about MSRTC’s vision for a sustainable future in transportation. The addition of 5150 air-conditioned e-buses to its fleet, supported by e-bus charging stations at more than 173 bus stands across the state, marks a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions and enhancing the passenger experience.

The launch also highlighted the importance of improving conditions for MSRTC staff, with directives issued to ensure cleanliness and provide necessary amenities at bus stations, further emphasizing the holistic approach taken by the corporation towards improvement and sustainability.

With this latest update, the Nashik to Borivali e-bus service stands as a testament to MSRTC’s ongoing efforts to modernize and eco-friendly its operations, promising a new era of public transport for the state of Maharashtra.
