Khadakwasla Dam Discharge Increased to 20,779 Cusecs as Heavy Rain Raises Water Levels
The Khadakwasla Irrigation Division on Sunday increased the discharge from Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha River to 20,779 cusecs following continuous heavy rainfall in the catchment area and a rapid rise in the reservoir’s water level. The higher release came into effect at 10 am, prompting the district administration to issue a public safety advisory for residents living along the river.
According to the Executive Engineer of the Khadakwasla Irrigation Division, the discharge through the dam’s spillway has been increased from 13,981 cusecs to 20,779 cusecs to regulate the rising water level. Officials said the release is being monitored continuously and may be increased or reduced depending on further rainfall and inflows into the reservoir.
The District Information Office urged people to stay away from the Mutha riverbed and avoid entering the river or adjoining water bodies. Authorities warned that the flow could change without prior notice based on weather conditions and reservoir operations.
Residents, farmers and others who have parked vehicles, stored materials or kept equipment near the riverbed have been asked to shift them to safer locations immediately. Livestock grazing in or near the river channel should also be moved to higher ground as a precaution.
The administration has also directed officials and local representatives to alert people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas along the riverbanks. Citizens have been advised to remain vigilant, follow official instructions and avoid unnecessary movement near the river until further updates are issued.
The irrigation department said reservoir operations will continue to be reviewed based on rainfall across the catchment. Further changes in discharge will be communicated through official channels as the situation develops.
