Going to Mahabaleshwar? Check Bans and Restrictions at Tourist Spots Due to Rains
Following the ‘Orange’ and ‘Red’ alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Satara district, District Collector and District Disaster Management Authority Chairman Santosh Patil has enforced strict restrictive orders to prevent potential loss of life and property. The restrictions remain fully active as heavy rains continue to lash the region.
Given Satara’s vulnerable geographic terrain, particularly the western hilly and remote talukas of Patan, Jaoli, Mahabaleshwar, Wai, and Satara, the administration highlighted an imminent risk of heavy landslides, flash floods, and communication disruptions.
Restrictions for Tourists
- No Entry to Hazardous Sites: Citizens and tourists are strictly prohibited from entering high-risk tourist destinations, waterfalls, lakes, and areas adjacent to riverbanks.
- Warning Boards: Local administrations have been ordered to instantly set up clear “Danger Zone” and “No Entry” signs at landslide-prone areas and popular selfie points.
- Ghat Road Regulations: Parking or stopping vehicles along ghat sections and near steep cliffs is completely banned to avoid accidents from falling debris.
- Evacuations: Families residing in landslide-prone zones or dilapidated houses are being actively warned and relocated to temporary shelters, local schools, and community halls equipped with basic medical facilities and clean drinking water.

The administration warned that any individual or organization found violating these safety protocols will face strict legal action under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Tourists are strongly advised to cancel any travel plans to the region until weather conditions stabilize.
