PMRDA Warns Officials Of Action If Hinjawadi Flooding Persists
PUNE | April 30, 2026
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has issued a stern warning to accountable officers, stating that strict action will be taken under the ‘Disaster Management Act’ if the Hinjawadi-Man IT Park and surrounding areas experience waterlogging or a disaster this monsoon due to a lack of proper planning.
The directive was established during a high-level joint meeting on disaster management held at the PMRDA headquarters in Akurdi. Chaired by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, the meeting’s primary objective is to prevent public inconvenience during the upcoming rainy season.
Key Directives and Deadlines
To ensure the safety and seamless operation of the Hinjewadi IT corridor, authorities have laid out several non-negotiable mandates:
- Pre-Monsoon Deadline: All pre-monsoon works must be completed by May 31, 2026, under any circumstances.
- Drainage Clearing: Orders have been issued to immediately clear all blocked main drains used for water drainage in Hinjewadi-Man and surrounding areas.
- Encroachment Removal: Officials must remove encroachments along water channels and widen the drains to prevent overflow.
Inter-Departmental Coordination
To execute these measures, the PMRDA has mandated close collaboration among multiple government bodies. Instructions were given to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), PMRDA, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), relevant Gram Panchayats, and the Irrigation Department to work in coordination and implement the measures immediately.
The review meeting was attended by key administrative, police, and civic officials, including:
- K. Manjulakshmi, Additional Municipal Commissioner
- Avinash Patil, Director of Development Permission Department
- Poonam Mehta, Joint Commissioner (Land and Property Department)
- Vivek Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic)
- Rahul Sonawane, Senior Police Inspector, Hinjewadi
With the May deadline approaching, the administration remains on high alert to ensure that the infrastructure is prepared for the heavy rainfall expected in the region.
