Pune was lashed by rains and thunderstorms on the evening of Sunday, June 21, raising hopes that monsoon has entered the city. However this far from truth as IMD has not declared the onset of monsoon over the city yet and weather experts are saying yesterday’s showers were a result of moisture-laden westerly winds combined with daytime heating.

Monsoon Expected in 48 Hours

Nevertheless, there is a ray of hope as today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of Maharashtra (including Mumbai), remaining parts of Telangana and Odisha, some more parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar during next 48 hours.

Yellow Alert in Pune

Meanwhile, Regional Meteorological Department (RMC), Mumbai has placed Pune on yellow alert for rough weather for the next few days. The alert says that Pune, including ghat areas, will experience gusty winds blowing up 30-40 kmph, thunderstorms and light to moderate rain.
