Brief Rains Improved Air Quality So Much That People Could See Mumbai Skyline from Lonavala

A zoomed-in screenshot captured from a video shot by a tourist in Lonavala's Shivling Point showing Mumbai's skyline being visible from such a distance after the rains cleaned the air of all pollutants and dust.

Pune/Lonavala, June 22, 2026: Thunderstorm and heavy rain on Sunday, June 21, brought not only relief from the sweltering heat but also renewed hopes of monsoon arrival in and around the city.

However besides the relief, the optimism and the chai-bhajjis, a famous tourist spot in Lonavala near Pune also witnessed a rare spectacle.

The rains cleaned the air so much that some tourists captured Mumbai skyline right from Lonavala’s Shivling point.

On a video shared on X, a user wrote, “AQI so low today due to early showers – could see Mumbai Skyline from Shivling point, Lonavala.”

A similar incident was reported from Jalandhar in Punjab when the AQI (Air Quality Index) had dropped so low during Covid-19 lockdown that people could see Himalayas from over a distance of many hundred kilometers.

These incidents highlight how much suspended particles exist in the air that we breathe due to air pollution. Only when an unprecedented events like the above happen that we realize how beautiful our planet is and what have we done to it.
