Pune: SkyBus project to connect Hinjawadi metro to IT companies approved, work to begin soon

Pune Metro Expansion and Sky Bus Integration

Pune is set to witness the introduction of an innovative transport system, the SkyBus, aimed at revolutionizing last-mile connectivity within the Hinjawadi IT park. This unique feeder mode is designed to complement the city’s Metro network, enhancing accessibility and convenience for thousands of commuters.

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, announced that the project has received all necessary approvals and is poised for launch. The SkyBus initiative will bridge the gap between the Metro stations and individual IT companies, facilitating a direct, hassle-free commute for professionals in the area.

Fadnavis further stated that the Pune Metro network, encompassing the Vanaz-Ramwadi, PCMC-Swargate, and Hinjawadi-Civil court lines, is expected to span a total of 54 kilometers across all three lines, significantly boosting the city’s public transport infrastructure. The Hinjawadi – Civil Court Metro Line 3, undertaken by Tata Projects, is on track for completion within the next year.

The introduction of the SkyBus service marks a significant step towards reducing vehicular traffic and air pollution within the IT park. With the Metro and SkyBus combination, Hinjawadi is set to become a vehicle-free zone, exemplifying Pune’s commitment to sustainable and innovative urban transport solutions.

The project’s groundbreaking ceremony, or ‘bhumi pujan,’ is scheduled to take place shortly, pending the availability of key state officials. This initiative not only promises to streamline the daily commute for IT professionals but also sets a precedent for similar projects across Pune, further enhancing the city’s urban mobility landscape.
