After a prolonged lull, monsoon is likely to get active again in many parts of Maharashtra, including Pune, coinciding with the upcoming Ganesh Festival. Weather experts are forecasting cloudy skies, thunderstorms and light to moderate rain, starting September 13.
Citing weather models from European Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), independent weather observers predict increased rainfall activity in the second half of September. The experts also said Maharashtra could see intermittent spells of rain between September 13-16.
Pune could witness heightened rainfall activity during the second half of the Ganesh Festival after a prolonged quiet phase of monsoon.
However India Meteorological Department (IMD), the official weather forecaster in India, has not made any statement on the possibility of monsoon revival in Pune and other parts of Maharashtra yet.
Some sources suggest that it is too early to accurately predict rainfall activity in the middle of September, as forecasted by some independent weather experts.
As a precautionary measure, residents of Pune can factor in the possibility of rain during the festival and make plans accordingly to ensure smooth celebrations.
