Pune: MNGL Hikes CNG and PNG Prices Again; Check Latest Rates in Pune, PCMC, and Hinjawadi

The left side shows a shocked Indian woman looking at a domestic MNGL piped natural gas (PNG) meter and bill in her kitchen, showing a price increase from a previous bill of ₹2,100 to a new bill of ₹2,950. The right side shows a busy MNGL fuel station in Pune with a digital fuel pump displaying the new CNG rate of ₹95.75 per kg, an auto-rickshaw refueling, and traffic near a Hinjawadi IT Park sign.

Pune, June 16, 2026: Maharashtra Natural Gas Nigam Limited (MNGL) has announced a fresh price hike for both Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) across the Pune district. The revised tariffs came into effect from the midnight of Monday, June 15, 2026, marking the third major fuel price revision in the region in less than six weeks.

The latest price hike has led to the fears of increased commodity prices and inflated kitchen budgets for the residents of Pune district.

Latest CNG Price in Pune and PCMC: New Rates Explained

With the latest MNGL price hike in Pune, the retail selling price of CNG has been increased by ₹1.00 per kilogram. Private vehicle owners and transport operators filling gas in their vehicles will now have to pay ₹95.75 per kg, up from the previous rate of ₹94.75 per kg. This retail price adjustment includes all applicable local taxes.

The new fuel rates are uniformly applicable across all operational gas stations in:

  • Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits
  • Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) areas
  • High-density IT and industrial corridors of Hinjawadi, Chakan, and Talegaon.

Domestic Kitchen Budgets Hit as PNG Rates Increased in Maharashtra

During the previous price revision on May 27 piped cooking gas was spared but MNGL has increased domestic PNG rates this time. The price of household PNG has been increased by ₹0.85 per Standard Cubic Meter (SCM).

As a resullt, the revised domestic PNG rate has risen to ₹51.50 per SCM, up from the earlier rate of ₹50.65 per SCM. This increase directly affects the thousands of urban households in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad that have shifted from conventional Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders to piped infrastructure over the past few years, especially during the PG shortages in past few months due to Iran war.

Why is MNGL Increasing Gas Prices Repeatedly?

In an official statement released by the city’s city gas distribution utility, MNGL attributed this quick-succession price revision to volatile supply-side macroeconomic factors.

“Due to a sharp, continuous increase in the core input cost of natural gas allocated for both the domestic and vehicular segments, it has become commercially unavoidable to execute this marginal adjustment in consumer selling prices,” an MNGL spokesperson stated.

However, the company said that despite the repetitive iterations of price hikes, natural gas still is more economical than other petroleum products. According to corporate calculations based on the latest fuel rates, CNG passenger cars still offer approximately 47% fuel savings compared to petrol vehicles and roughly 25% savings over diesel variants at the prevailing fuel prices in Pune.

A Timeline of the Pune CNG Price Hike in 2026

The June 15 revision has deeply impacted vehicle owners because it is the third upward price correction implemented by MNGL within a span of just 40 days.

Revision DatePrice Change AmountFinal CNG Price (per kg)
May 8, 2026+ ₹1.50₹92.25
May 27, 2026+ ₹2.50₹94.75
June 15, 2026+ ₹1.00₹95.75

With a cumulative rise of ₹5.00 per kg in under two months, transport logistics operators note that the economic advantage of shifting away from petrol and diesel is shrinking at an alarming pace.

Pune Auto Rickshaw Fare Hike Demand

The rapid changes in gas prices have disrupted the public transport operators. Shocked by the repetitive price hikes, prominent autorickshaw transport unions, including the Rickshaw Panchayat and Baghtoy Rickshawaala groups, have strongly criticized both MNGL and the state administration.

Union leaders pointed out that thousands of auto-rickshaw drivers across Pune, Chakan, and the Hinjawadi operate on razor-thin margins. Representatives from the Rickshaw Panchayat said that they have already submitted formal representations to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA). They feel that this latest revision provides immediate justification for the administration to approve an immediate upward adjustment in passenger fares per kilometer to account for the inflating input fuel bills.
