Pune Metro Set for Major Expansion; Bids Invited for 18 New Elevated Stations

Pune, June 28, 2026: Maha Metro has opened the bidding process for extensive expansion works covering three important segments: Line 2 Extension, Line 4, and Line 4A. The projects collectively involve the construction of 18 new elevated stations and over 16 kilometers of elevated viaducts.

Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi (Line 2 Extension)

Maha Metro is executing the extension of Line 2, to take metro connectivity deeper into eastern Pune. Bids have been invited for the construction of 4 elevated stations:

  • Viman Nagar
  • Somnath Nagar
  • Kharadi Bypass
  • Tuljabhawani

Project Timeline: The construction deadline is strictly set at 36 months from the date the Letter of Award (LoA) is issued.

Kharadi to Khadakwasla (Line 4)

This line will connect the massive IT hubs and residential zones of Kharadi down to the southwestern outskirts of Khadakwasla. This bid covers the design and construction of 9.675 km of elevated metro viaduct, along with structural work for 8 stations:

  • Deshpande Udyan, Rajaram Pul, Hingne Chowk, Manik Baug, Dhayari Phata, Nanded City, Dalvewadi, and Khadakwasla.

SNDT to Manik Baug (Line 4A Parallel Development)

Bidding is also going on to enhance connectivity through the busy Karve Road and Warje corridors, linking SNDT to Manik Baug. This segment includes a 7.247 km elevated viaduct and the construction of 6 elevated stations:

  • Nal Stop, Karve Putala, Dahanukar Colony, Karve Nagar, Warje, and Daulat Nagar.

While all this is happening in Pune, the Pune Metro Line 4, connecting Maan-Hinjawadi to Civil Court is all set to start phase 1 operations by July 15 connecting 13 stations from Maan to RK Laxman Museum in Baner. It is also scheduled to run commercial operations across its full length and 23 stations from Maan to Civil Court in August 2026.

Extension of Line 2, together with Line 4&4A and the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3, will add a new chapter in the daily commute across Pune city and its suburbs, bringing the much needed speed and comfort during daily commute in the city.
