Mumbai Man Sets Road on Fire in Goregaon for Making Birthday Reels; Arrested
A reckless birthday celebration has landed a 33-year-old car dealer in legal trouble after he allegedly set a public road on fire to film a social media reel. The Goregaon police registered an First Information Report (FIR) on April 26 following public outrage over the dangerous stunt.
The Incident
The reckless act took place in the early hours of April 25, around 12:05 AM, in the Goregaon West area. According to police reports, the individual used petrol to douse a section of the MMRDA road near Ram Mandir Road, specifically outside the Sunteck City 4th Avenue residential complex.
In a bid to celebrate his 33rd birthday, the man allegedly poured the fuel in the shape of the number “33” before igniting it with a matchstick. The entire 28-second act was filmed and subsequently uploaded to social media.
Safety Risks and Damage
The stunt caused visible damage to the road surface at four separate locations. Beyond the property damage, authorities highlighted a significant risk to public safety. The blaze occurred in close proximity to several parked vehicles, posing a severe fire hazard to the residential neighborhood.
Police Action
The video quickly gained traction online, but not for the reasons the creator likely intended. Concerned residents and social media users began tagging the Mumbai Police, calling for immediate intervention.
“The act posed a serious safety risk to the locality,” a police official stated. Following the digital trail and the subsequent public outcry, the Goregaon police moved to identify the individual and initiate legal proceedings.
The accused, a resident of Goregaon West, now faces charges related to the endangerment of public safety and damage to public property.
