Maharashtra’s Shabari Naturals Wins Japan’s Prestigious Good Design Award for Packaging
Shabari Naturals, a brand of the Maharashtra Government’s Shabari Adivasi Finance and Development Corporation, has won Japan’s prestigious Good Design Award (G-Mark) for its packaging design.
The brand has previously received the India Design Mark award. The latest recognition brings international attention to Maharashtra’s Adivasi art, culture and natural products.
Shabari Naturals was developed to provide market access to natural and organic products made by Adivasi communities and showcase their culture to a wider audience. Its packaging incorporates traditional art forms such as Warli, Gondi and Chitrakathi, along with depictions of Adivasi lifestyles and their relationship with nature.
The brand markets products made from honey, mohflowers, charoli and bamboo.
Tribal Development Minister Prof. Dr. Ashok Uike said the international award recognises Adivasi culture and the hard work of the community. He expressed confidence that the recognition would improve the products’ credibility and visibility in global markets, supporting sustainable development and employment generation within Adivasi communities.
Leena Banasode, Commissioner of the Tribal Development Department, said the award was a matter of pride and that the brand’s international recognition reflected the art, traditions and efforts of Adivasi communities. She credited the community for the achievement.
The award marks another recognition for Shabari Naturals as it seeks to bring Adivasi products and traditional art to wider markets.
