Maharashtra Extends HSRP Deadline for Old Vehicles Till June 30, 2026; ₹1,000 Penalty From July 1
MUMBAI, May 23, 2026: The Maharashtra government has extended the deadline for affixing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on old vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, giving vehicle owners additional time to comply with the mandatory requirement.
The final deadline, which was earlier set for December 31, 2025, has now been extended till June 30, 2026, according to information shared by the state Transport Department.
The decision was taken after the government found that only around 50 percent of the eligible old vehicles in Maharashtra had installed HSRP so far.
The Transport Department has warned that strict enforcement will begin from July 1, 2026. Vehicles whose owners fail to install HSRP or do not even book an advance appointment within the stipulated period will face checks on roads across the state.
As per the Motor Vehicles Act and Rules, violators will have to pay a compromise fee of ₹1,000.
In a press release, Joint Transport Commissioner (Computer) Shailesh Kamat appealed to vehicle owners to complete the process before the revised deadline.
Vehicle owners have been advised to visit the official Maharashtra Transport Department website, Maharashtra Transport Department, and book an online appointment for HSRP installation by June 30, 2026.
