The wait is almost over. Redmi 17 5G is set to launch in India tomorrow, September 3, and Xiaomi’s new smartphone is arriving with a massive 7,900mAh battery, a new Snapdragon processor and a price tag that could push it well beyond the traditional budget Redmi territory.
Redmi has already confirmed several details about the phone ahead of its India debut, while a fresh price leak has added another talking point just hours before the launch.
Redmi 17 5G India launch date
The Redmi 17 5G India launch is scheduled for September 3, 2026. Xiaomi has put up a dedicated India microsite for the smartphone, confirming the launch date and highlighting its battery and display features.
The smartphone will be available in India through Amazon, while Xiaomi’s online and retail channels are also expected to carry the device.
Redmi 17 5G price in India
This is where things get interesting.
Redmi has not officially announced the India price yet. However, a report published on September 2, citing tipster Abhishek Yadav, claims that the Redmi 17 could start at ₹25,000 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant.
The alleged 8GB RAM + 128GB model could cost ₹28,000.
These prices remain unconfirmed until Redmi makes the announcement. If accurate, they would represent a significant jump from the Redmi numbered series’ earlier positioning. For comparison, the Redmi 15 was launched in India at ₹14,999 for its 6GB + 128GB version in August 2025.
7,900mAh battery is the biggest highlight
The Redmi 17 5G is expected to make battery life one of its biggest selling points.
The Indian variant will pack a 7,900mAh battery, which is larger than the 7,500mAh unit offered with the global model. Redmi has also confirmed 45W wired fast charging and 22.5W wired reverse charging for the Indian version.
The reverse-charging feature can allow the phone to supply power to compatible accessories and other devices.
Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 powers Redmi 17 5G
The smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset.
The processor is based on a 4nm manufacturing process and features an octa-core CPU with a maximum clock speed of 2.4GHz. Current reports describe the Redmi 17 5G as the first smartphone in India to use the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5.
The global phone is offered with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage, with configurations including 4GB and 6GB RAM and up to 256GB storage. However, the exact India configurations will be confirmed at launch.
6.9-inch 120Hz display
The Redmi 17 5G will feature a large 6.9-inch display with up to a 120Hz refresh rate.
The global specification sheet lists an HD+ LCD panel with a 1600 x 720 resolution. The high refresh rate should make scrolling and supported animations appear smoother, although buyers looking for a sharper Full HD+ or AMOLED panel may find the display specifications less impressive than some rivals in higher price brackets.
50MP camera and 8MP selfie camera
For photography, the Redmi 17 5G will feature a 50MP primary rear camera alongside a secondary rear sensor.
The phone is also expected to carry an 8MP front camera housed inside a centrally positioned punch-hole cutout.
The global specification sheet lists 1080p video recording at 30fps from both the rear and front cameras.
Redmi 17 5G colours
Redmi has confirmed three colour options for the Indian market:
- Absolutely Black
- Endless Blue
- Eternal Orange
The Indian model retains the overall design of the global Redmi 17 5G, including its textured rear finish.

Redmi 17 5G launch: What to expect
With its 7,900mAh battery and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, the Redmi 17 5G is clearly being positioned around battery endurance and everyday performance.
The bigger question will be its price.
If the reported ₹25,000 starting price turns out to be accurate, Redmi will be entering a much more competitive segment than the traditional sub-₹15,000 territory associated with its numbered series. At that price, the phone’s large battery and new Snapdragon chip will have to compete against rivals offering higher-resolution displays and other premium features.
The official Redmi 17 5G India price, RAM and storage configurations, launch offers and sale details are expected to be revealed on September 3.
