FDA Maharashtra Launches AI-Powered Citizen Portal to Report Food Adulteration and Fake Medicines

FDA Maharashtra Launches AI-Powered Citizen Portal

Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has launched an advanced, AI-powered citizen grievance redressal portal. The initiative aims to majorly reduce response times and simplify how citizens report public health hazards across the state.

Announcing the digital initiative, FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe stated that the platform eliminates traditional bureaucratic hurdles by allowing citizens to lodge complaints using voice commands. Users can speak or type their grievances in Marathi, Hindi, or English. The integrated artificial intelligence assistant then reviews the details, converts spoken accounts into a structured written format, and automatically routes the file to the appropriate Food Safety Officer or drug inspector.

“The new platform is built with auto-assignment, auto-escalation, and built-in accountability,” Commissioner Mundhe said. The auto-escalation system ensures that if a designated officer fails to take action within a specified timeframe, the complaint is automatically bumped up to higher authorities, establishing complete traceability.

How to Register Your Complaint on FDA

The portal can be accessed at complaints.mahafda.in. It breaks the reporting process down into three steps that take less than two minutes:

  • Describing the issue
  • AI processing
  • Officer investigation.

Beyond public safety issues like adulterated food and substandard or fake medicines, the portal offers real-time status tracking so citizens can monitor the exact progress of their complaints.

For individuals without internet access, the FDA has reiterated that its toll-free helpline number, 1800 222 365, remains fully operational for reporting safety violations.
