Pune to Redevelop 135.8 km of Roads at ₹167.25 Crore Ahead of 2027 Pune Grand Tour
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a major road redevelopment project worth ₹167.25 crore to prepare the city for the 2027 Pune Grand Tour, an international cycling race scheduled to be held from January 26 to 31, 2027.
Under the project, 135.8 km of roads across Pune will be upgraded to international standards, benefiting both the cycling event and the city’s everyday commuters. The race route has already been finalised and will pass through several parts of the city within PMC limits.
Of the total stretch, 52.09 km consists of roads that were upgraded for the inaugural Pune Grand Tour held earlier this year, while 83.66 km of additional roads will now be redeveloped for the second edition of the event.
The first Pune Grand Tour received an encouraging response from citizens and cycling enthusiasts. Upgrading the race route to international standards was one of the key requirements for hosting the event, and the civic body is now expanding those efforts ahead of next year’s race.
PMC City Engineer Annirudha Pawaskar said the work will be carried out at an estimated cost of ₹167.25 crore and divided into four separate packages to ensure timely completion and maintain high construction quality.
The first package covers roads in Aundh, Baner, Pashan, University and Range Hills. The second package includes Senapati Bapat Road, Kothrud, Karve Nagar, Sinhagad Road, Parvati Payatha, Sarasbaug and Khadakwasla.
The third package focuses on roads in the Peth areas, along with Shivdarshan, Gangadham, Kondhwa, Bhavani Peth, Camp and Yewalewadi. The fourth package will include Bhairoba Nala, Magarpatta, Mundhwa, North Main Road, Vidhan Bhavan, Ganeshkhind Road, Fergusson College Road and Deccan.
According to PMC officials, the project aims to deliver world-class road infrastructure required for the international cycling competition while also improving driving conditions, traffic movement and road quality for thousands of Pune residents. Tenders for the redevelopment work are expected to be issued soon.
