Pune: PMRDA’s Biggest Ever Anti-Encroachment Drive Reclaims 35 Hectares High-Value Land After Demolishing 680 Illegal Tin Sheds

PMRDA Anti-Encroachment Drive in Pune

In what is being recognized as its most extensive anti-encroachment drive to date, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) launched a relentless crackdown in Moi village, demolishing 680 unauthorized tin sheds and commercial structures. The mammoth operation, which spanned a continuous 20-hour window over two days, successfully reclaimed approximately 35 hectares of high-value land from illegal encroachers.

The high-stakes eviction campaign was spearheaded by PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, alongside Additional Metropolitan Commissioner K. Manjulakshmi and Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey. Given the sheer scale of the structures involved, primarily used for illegal scrap storage and unauthorized commercial activities, the administration mobilized an unprecedented multi-agency task force to prevent potential law-and-order disruptions.

A unified contingent of over 1,000 personnel took control of the site, including 650 police personnel, 50 jawans from the Maharashtra Security Force (MSF), a platoon of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), and 30 personnel from the PMRDA fire brigade. The team deployed a massive fleet of modern heavy machinery, utilizing 12 Poclain excavators, 12 JCBs, tractors, tippers, hydra cranes, and gas cutters to dismantle the structures systematically across 68 distinct land survey numbers.

Thanks to rigorous planning, the entire 20-hour operation was completed smoothly without any violent altercations or safety incidents. The enforcement drive was executed through meticulous coordination with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), the state electricity supply division (MSEDCL), local health departments, and the Khed Panchayat Samiti.

Following the historic operation, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari issued a stern warning to developers and regional land syndicates, confirming that the authority’s proactive enforcement strategies will continue unabated across the metropolitan region. Officials urged local citizens not to fall prey to illegal construction schemes, emphasizing that PMRDA maintains a zero-tolerance policy for unauthorized land occupancy.
