Tragedy at Moshi Garbage Depot: Landslide Buries PCMC ‘Waste to Energy’ Building, Rescue Ops Underway

Pune, July 08, 2026: A huge landslide at the Moshi garbage depot has crushed the administrative building of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) ‘Waste to Energy’ project, leaving at least two to three workers dead and fears that eight to ten others remain trapped under the debris.
The disaster, triggered by incessant heavy rainfall in the region, brought a massive hill of garbage crashing down onto the facility.
Local rescue teams, including the fire brigade and disaster management personnel, rushed to the site immediately to launch a massive search and rescue operation. Ambulances and a medical team from the D.Y. Patil Hospital are on the ground, working frantically to treat the injured and transport them to the hospital.
Mayor of Pimpri-Chinchwad, Ravi Landge, told ANI, “Due to the heavy rainfall across the city, water levels have risen significantly. This caused a mass of accumulated garbage debris to collapse onto an office building, bringing down a concrete slab. Sixteen office staff members were eating there at the time; two managed to get out, and rescue operations are currently underway for the others. No, there have been no deaths; everyone is safe. The fire brigade, NDRF team, police, and the health and environment departments are working together to bring them out…”
