Swiggy Dineout has launched an ‘Order-in-Cinemas’ feature in partnership with top multiplex chains Cinépolis and Asian Cinemas, enabling moviegoers to order food and beverages directly to their seats using a QR-code system.

The service allows cinema patrons to scan a QR code placed in the hall, browse the theater’s menu on the Swiggy Dineout app, place their order, and make payments without stepping out to stand in concession stand queues. The platform has also integrated with point-of-sale aggregators, including UFO Moviez’s Impact and Showbizz, to streamline order processing across theater systems.

The initiative aims to address long-standing operational bottlenecks during intermissions, where long queues often lead to lost concession sales. By allowing continuous browsing and ordering throughout the screening, the system is expected to increase average spend per head for multiplex operators while offering promotional discounts to consumers.

Beyond food ordering, the integration allows users to view upcoming movie releases, watch trailers, access booking links, and check special event listings directly on the app. The feature also enables cinemas to offer personalized combo recommendations, upselling opportunities, and cross-selling options during the movie.

Swiggy Dineout and Scenes Chief Executive Officer Swapnil Bajpai said the move expands the platform’s footprint beyond traditional restaurant dining and expands touchpoints within the broader out-of-home entertainment sector. The company plans to roll out the service across additional multiplex chains as point-of-sale integrations progress.

Cinépolis India Managing Director Devang Sampat said initial rollouts showed improved guest retention during screenings, as patrons no longer need to step out during key moments of a film to purchase food. UFO Moviez Founder and Managing Director Rajesh Mishra confirmed that technical integration with their cinema ticketing software is underway to deploy the service across partnered screens nationwide.

The feature is currently live across selected Cinépolis and Asian Cinemas screens, with full nationwide deployment planned across partner venues in the coming months.
