Pune, July 01, 2026: On the first day of July, the monsoon seems to have finally decided to unleash its full fury, something that was completely missing across Maharashtra, the whole of June. Now the entire state of Maharashtra is in a state of alert for extreme weather for the next few days.
Six districts across the state are on red alert by IMD for extremely heavy rainfall and 12 on orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall starting July 01.

Districts on Red Alert
The IMD has issued a Red Alert for the following regions, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, alongside extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places:
- Konkan Region: Palghar, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri.
- Western Maharashtra (Ghat areas): The ghat regions of Pune and Satara.
People living in these areas, especially near rivers and landslide-prone ghat sections, are advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and stay updated on local safety guidelines.
Districts on Orange Alert
IMD has issued an Orange Alert for two different weather conditions across twelve districts:
- Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall – Mumbai, Sindhudurg, and the ghat areas of Kolhapur.
- Severe thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, heavy to very heavy localized rainfall, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 km/h – Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, and Wardha.
Pune Weather – Yellow Alert
While Ghats of Pune have been placed under a red alert, the city has been spared with only moderate rainfall, typical of July. IMD predicts thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds ranging between 30–40 km/h at isolated places across the city.
Yellow Alert for Rest of Maharashtra
All the other districts of the state, not placed under red and orange alerts are also under a yellow alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning.
Residents are advised to be cautious of the rapidly changing weather conditions and avoid venturing near water bodies and mountain slopes to avoid risk of getting caught in flash floods or landslides.
