PUNE — In a proactive move to prevent citizen inconvenience during the upcoming monsoon season, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) held a high-level joint meeting on disaster management at the PMRDA Headquarters in Akurdi. Chaired by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, the session outlined stringent deadlines aimed specifically at protecting the Hinjawadi IT Park and surrounding neighborhoods from severe waterlogging.

A key directive of the meeting is the immediate clearance of all blocked main drains within Hinjawadi. In addition to clearing existing blockages, authorities have been instructed to remove encroachments and widen drainage channels to ensure a smooth flow of rainwater. The PMRDA has made it mandatory to complete all pre-monsoon preparatory works by May 31, 2026, under any circumstances.

Ensuring Accountability and Coordination

To avoid typical monsoon disruptions, Commissioner Dr. Chaudhary issued a stern warning to all participating departments. If waterlogging or a disaster occurs due to a lack of planning, accountability will be strictly fixed on the responsible officers under the provisions of the ‘Disaster Management Act’.

To guarantee seamless execution, the PMRDA, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), local Gram Panchayats, and the Irrigation Department are working in close coordination. This collaborative effort ensures that Hinjawadi’s infrastructure is well-equipped to handle heavy downpours.

The meeting was attended by key civic, engineering, and law enforcement officials, including Additional Municipal Commissioner K. Manjulakshmi and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vivek Patil, who finalized on-ground strategies tailored to the unique needs of the Hinjawadi tech corridor.
