Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro: The “Puneri Metro” Unveils its Logo as May 2026 Opening Nears
The landscape of Pune’s “Silicon Valley” is about to change forever. In a landmark moment for the city’s infrastructure, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) have officially unveiled the logo for Pune Metro Line 3.
The unveiling, accompanied by a powerful video campaign, carries a simple yet profound message: “And finally, the wait is over… Today, we reveal more than just a logo. We reveal a vision.” This vision is a direct answer to the daily traffic woes of thousands of IT professionals and residents commuting between Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar.
The New Identity: Decoding the Pune Metro Line 3 Logo
The newly unveiled logo represents more than just a transit service; it symbolizes the synergy between Pune’s rich heritage and its high-tech future.
- A Symbol of Connection: The logo’s design elements emphasize the “bridging” of distances, specifically linking the bustling IT hub of Hinjawadi to the central business district of Shivajinagar.
- Modernity Meets Tradition: The visual identity aligns with the “Puneri” spirit—bold, efficient, and reliable.
- A Promise of Speed: The fluid lines within the logo suggest “smoother commutes and faster journeys,” reflecting the project’s goal to slash travel time by over 50%.
And finally, the wait is over.

Project Deep Dive: Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar (The Red Line)
Pune Metro Line 3, often referred to as the Red Line, is a 23.3 km fully elevated corridor. Unlike Lines 1 and 2, which are managed by Maha-Metro, Line 3 is being developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by a consortium led by Tata Group and Siemens.
Quick Facts Table
| Feature | Details |
| Total Length | 23.3 km |
| Number of Stations | 23 Elevated Stations |
| Primary Route | Megapolis Circle (Hinjawadi) to Civil Court (Shivajinagar) |
| Major Interchanges | Civil Court (Connecting to Purple & Aqua Lines) |
| Technology | State-of-the-art Siemens signaling and Tata construction |
| Completion Status | Approx. 94% as of April 2026 |
Opening Schedule: May 2026 and Beyond
Punekars won’t have to wait long to experience the new ride. PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari recently confirmed that the project is operating in “mission mode.”
- Phase 1 (May/June 2026): The first section, likely covering 12 stations starting from the Hinjawadi end (Maan/Megapolis Circle), is slated for inauguration. This will provide immediate relief to the IT park’s internal congestion.
- Full Operations (September 2026): The entire stretch to Shivajinagar is expected to be fully operational by the third quarter of 2026, pending final safety clearances and trials.
The Environmental Edge: A “Green” Metro
While the logo highlights a vision for the future, the project has also focused on sustainability. To compensate for the construction, PMRDA has planted 5,500 new trees across Pune. Interestingly, each tree is geo-tagged with a QR code, allowing citizens to scan them and learn about the species and its environmental benefits—a first-of-its-kind tech integration for a metro project in India.
Why This Matters for Pune
The Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar corridor is currently one of the most congested routes in Maharashtra. With the metro set to arrive, the city expects:
- Reduced Carbon Footprint: Fewer private vehicles on the road.
- Economic Growth: Enhanced connectivity to the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park.
- Better Work-Life Balance: Hours saved in traffic for the city’s massive workforce.
As the authorities put it: “Pune, we are about to arrive!”
