Maharashtra Weather Alert: IMD Warns of Thunderstorms and Rain in Pune and SE Maharashtra from October 23-26
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Maharashtra weather alert, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rainfall across several parts of the state, including Pune and southeast Maharashtra, over the next few days.
According to Anupam Kashyapi, former head of IMD Pune’s Weather Forecasting Division, a well-marked low-pressure area (WML) in the southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify and move west-northwestward. Another weather system in the Arabian Sea is also expected to strengthen and move northwestward. These developments have prompted the IMD to issue a Maharashtra weather alert, especially for Pune, Kolhapur, and adjoining regions.
Dr. Vineet Kumar, a noted weather scientist, stated that strong thunderstorms and heavy rain (“tej barish”) are likely in Pune and Kolhapur between October 23 and 26.
