New Delhi, June 26, 2025 – Recent social media posts claiming that two-wheelers will be charged toll fees on highways from July 15, 2025, have been debunked as #FakeNews by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

What Was the Viral Claim?

Several misleading posts circulated online, suggesting that the government would impose toll taxes on motorcycles and scooters using national highways. The claims even referenced a supposed announcement by NHAI, causing confusion among commuters.

NHAI’s Official Clarification

The NHAI (@NHAI_Official) has categorically denied any such move, stating:

“There are no plans to impose toll charges on two-wheelers. The viral claims are baseless and misleading.”

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, also condemned the false reports, emphasizing:

“Some media houses are spreading misleading news about toll taxes on two-wheelers. No such decision has been proposed. Two-wheelers will continue to be fully exempt from toll charges. Spreading sensational fake news without verification is against ethical journalism.”

#PIBFactCheck Confirms

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) labeled the claim as #Fake, urging citizens to rely only on official sources before sharing unverified information.

Why This Matters

With over 25 crore two-wheelers on Indian roads, such misinformation could have caused unnecessary panic. The government has consistently exempted two-wheelers from tolls to ensure affordable travel for the common public.
