DoT Makes Caller Name and Number Display Mandatory from November 1
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has instructed all telecom service providers (TSPs) holding an authorization or license to introduce the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service across all service areas starting 1 November 2026.
Under this service, the caller’s identity, as recorded in the subscriber data record of the originating telecom service provider, will be displayed on the recipient’s user terminal (mobile handset) alongside their phone number during an incoming call.
For unsaved international numbers, incoming calls will display as “International Call”.
The feature will be made available to all users automatically without requiring a separate request.
Following trials on wireless terrestrial networks using 4G and higher-generation technologies, TSPs are implementing the service for these networks.
The roll-out of CNAP for 2G and 3G wireless terrestrial networks, as well as public switched telephone networks, will be considered separately after further examination.
