PMPML Announces 50% Bus Fare Discount for Senior Citizens Aged 60 and Above from November 1
The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has approved a 50% concession on regular bus ticket fares for passengers aged 60 years and above, effective November 1, 2026.
The decision was sanctioned by the PMPML Board of Directors and will apply across all bus routes in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and areas under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).
Under the revised scheme, senior citizens will receive a 50% discount on regular single-journey tickets. Previously, the concession was available only through a senior citizen daily pass priced at ₹35, against the regular daily pass fare of ₹70.
The change will allow senior citizens travelling short distances or on individual routes to benefit from the concession without having to purchase a full-day pass. (Pune News)
Passengers must present valid physical proof of age to the bus conductor when purchasing a ticket. Accepted documents include an Aadhaar Card, PAN Card or PMPML-issued Senior Citizen Identity Card. Those using an Aadhaar Card must ensure that it carries their complete date of birth, including the day, month and year.
PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Mahesh Awhad said the decision aims to make public transport more affordable and accessible for senior citizens by extending the concession to regular tickets across the network.
Welcoming the move, senior citizen commuters said many elderly residents depend on buses for medical visits, shopping and other routine activities. The reduced fares will help lower their daily travel expenses.
PMPML currently serves approximately 10 lakh passengers every day, including a large number of senior citizens.
Separately, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced 825 additional buses from Pune’s Swargate, Wakadewadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad depots for Diwali travel.
These services will operate across Maharashtra from November 1 to November 22, with no fare hikes planned. (Pune News)
