Pune: IT Professional Dies by Suicide; Mother-in-Law Booked for Alleged Harassment
Pune News, June 23, 2025: A 29-year-old IT professional from Pune tragically died by suicide following alleged mental and physical harassment by her mother-in-law. The victim, identified as Deepika Pramod Jadhav, was found dead at her residence in Dream Elegance Society on Handewadi Road, Hadapsar, on June 20.
Deepika, an MBA graduate working in the private IT sector, had been married since 2017 and was living with her husband, children, and in-laws. According to a complaint filed by her father, she had been enduring relentless pressure from her mother-in-law to extract money from her parents. The harassment reportedly included verbal abuse and domestic cruelty, pushing her to take the extreme step around noon on June 20.
The Kalepadal Police Station registered an FIR on Saturday under Sections 108 (abetment to suicide) and 85 (cruelty by relatives of the husband) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Assistant Police Inspector Vilas Sutar confirmed that no suicide note was recovered but stated that investigations are ongoing.
“At this stage, only the mother-in-law has been named in the FIR. We are gathering further evidence to verify the allegations,” Sutar said.
Deepika’s family alleges that she was subjected to persistent dowry demands and abuse, which contributed to her mental distress. The police are continuing their probe to determine the full extent of the circumstances leading to her death.
Earlier, due to alleged harassment by husband and in-laws, a a school teacher had died along with her six-year-old son, by jumping from the fifth floor of a building in Ambegaon, on June 18. Police had found a purported suicide note left by the deceased Mayuri Deshmukh (31). After further investigation, police arrested her husband in the case.
