Maharashtra FYJC Admission 2025: New Schedule Announced After Portal Crash

The Maharashtra government has announced a revised schedule for First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions after the official portal, https://mahafyjcadmission.in, crashed on Wednesday due to overwhelming traffic. Nearly 15 lakh students attempting to access the platform simultaneously caused technical disruptions, leaving thousands of anxious parents and students in limbo.
FYJC Admission 2025: Key Updates
Revised Registration Dates
The Directorate of Education (Secondary and Higher Secondary) confirmed that the registration process will resume on May 26, 2025, and remain open until May 28. Officials assured students that sufficient time will be provided to complete applications and preference submissions.
New In-House Quota Rule
A major policy change this year reduces the in-house quota from 20% to 10%, with stricter eligibility criteria. Only students who completed Class 10 from a school within the same premises as the junior college will qualify. This move has sparked concerns among city-based colleges, particularly in Mumbai, where space constraints make compliance difficult.
Academic Year Start Date
Colleges can begin the new academic year from July 1, provided at least 50% of seats are filled. Institutions failing to meet this threshold have until August 11 to start classes.
Portal Crash & Technical Fixes
Education officials attributed the website crash to 1.5 million simultaneous access attempts. The portal was temporarily shut down to improve mobile accessibility and resolve technical glitches. Mahesh Palkar, Director (Projects) of School Education, confirmed that updates will be communicated via email and SMS to avoid further confusion.
Officials Urge Calm Amid Admission Chaos
Authorities have urged parents and students not to panic, assuring that the process will be streamlined. A revised admission schedule was announced on May 22 at 3 PM, with further updates expected.
This year marks Maharashtra’s first fully centralized online FYJC admission process, covering over 20 lakh seats across 9,281 junior colleges in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams.
