Mumbai, May 19, 2025 â€“ The Maharashtra school education department has officially commenced the First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions for Class 11 through a centralized online portal, marking a historic shift to a fully digital admission process. With over 2 million seats across 9,281 junior colleges in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams, this year’s admission cycle aims to streamline the process while enhancing transparency.

Key Details of FYJC Admissions 2025

  • Admission Portal: https://mahafyjcadmissions.in
  • May 19 to May 20: A practice session for students will be held from 11 am to 6 pm. This is only for practice and data will be deleted by midnight
    of May 20.
  • Registration Period: May 21–28 (11 AM–6 PM)
  • Provisional Merit List: May 30 (11 AM)
  • Final Merit List: June 3 (4 PM)
  • First Round Allotment: June 5 (Zero Round)
  • College Allotment List: June 6 (10 AM)
  • Admission Confirmation: June 6–12

Students must register on the portal, select their preferred colleges, and complete the admission process digitally if allotted a seat. The state has mandated that those who secure their top-choice college must confirm admission, leaving no room for last-minute changes.

Challenges in Implementation

While the move to a 100% online FYJC admission system is a significant step toward efficiency, delays in college registrations have raised concerns. As of May 16, only 9,482 junior colleges had completed their registration, lagging behind last year’s numbers. Education officials are working to onboard institutions swiftly to avoid disruptions.

Parents and students have welcomed the digital shift but remain cautious. “We’re open to Pune colleges, but there’s no clarity on inter-city preference processing,” said Madhura Karve, a parent from Thane. Rural colleges also fear being sidelined as urban institutions fill up faster.

Addressing Seat Vacancies

Last year, 32.94% of FYJC seats in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region remained vacant, prompting calls for an audit of the admission process. The new system aims to optimize seat allocation through four regular admission rounds, followed by an â€˜Open Admission for All’ round to fill remaining vacancies.

Strict Guidelines for Transparency

  • No offline admissions (including management quotas)
  • Merit-based allocation only
  • Digital fee payments mandatory
  • Divisional deputy directors to oversee compliance

The state has urged students and parents to rely solely on official updates to avoid misinformation.
