Rainfall Likely in Bengaluru After Ugadi Festival | IMD

Bengaluru Rainfall after Ugadi

After a long month of heatwaves and very hot days and nights, Bengaluru’s residents can take a sigh of relief after the Ugadi festival. IMD has forecasted the possibility of ‘light to moderate’ rainfall in the city.

Contrary to the earlier IMD forecast on April 1, displaying expected normal to below-normal rainfall in the month for districts in South Interior Karnataka, the most recent update from IMD on April 4 hints at possibility of normal to above-normal rainfall in the region, including in Bengaluru.

This comes at a time when the city of Bengaluru and Karnataka have been reeling under severe shortage of water due to draught like conditions prevailing in the state.

According to IMD, Bengaluru and South Interior Karnataka districts will see summer rains starting in the second week of April, with thunderstorms until the end of the month.

A Prasad, senior scientist at IMD Bengaluru, stated, “The rain may start from the festive day of Ugadi with a few spells of light showers in isolated areas and gradually go on to become moderate rainfall during the second half of the festive week.”

Officials additionally revealed that rainfall would be scattered across the city. “It will be accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms. While it may not rain uniformly across the city, a few areas are expected to get considerable rainfall slightly above the normal range,”, said another meteorologist.

While the rain sets in in a week, IMD revealed that the heat is set to take a turn for the worse over the next three days. “Peak heat wave conditions are likely to prevail over Bengaluru and other adjoining districts. On Thursday, Bengaluru recorded 37 degrees Celsius, which is 3 degrees above average for April. This is expected to go up slightly by the weekend by a few points,”, another meteorolgist stated.
