Pune: Ola, Uber Parking Shifted to Aero Mall from 24th Jan, relieving traffic jams at airport

Ola Uber Parking Shifted to Aero Mall

Travelers using the Pune airport can breathe a sigh of relief from the frequent traffic jams outside the airport. Nearly two months after the opening of the newly-built Aero Mall at the airport, Ola, Uber Parking Shifted to Aero Mall from 24th Jan, relieving traffic jams in and around Pune airport.

Earlier passengers have been furious about the frequent traffic jams outside the airport. Even after the inauguration of the Aero Mall, the taxis continued to park on connecting roads, causing a major inconvenience to travelers. Now this will change.

The measure, according to airport officials, will reduce traffic congestion inside and outside the airport. In November of last year, the newly constructed Aero Mall was inaugurated by civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. According to an earlier agreement, the authorities were required to give the aggregator companies sixty days to transfer to the new location.

Despite the relocation of the pick-up area, taxis will continue to drop off passengers within airport grounds.

It is crucial to note that entering the airport during peak flight hours has been an ordeal for passengers and their families, as vehicles – particularly taxis – accumulate outside the airport, causing frequent traffic bottlenecks on the main road. In fact, the city’s traffic police had to deploy personnel during rush hour to control the volume of automobiles.

“When the number of flights increases, it is said that there is a great deal of vehicular traffic at the airport. However, there is little space because it is a military airfield. Following the example of Delhi and Mumbai airports, it was decided to relocate the pick-up zone to the multi-level parking lot at the newly constructed Aero Mall. “However, drop-offs will continue to be authorized in D1 and D2 zones as before,” said the airport official.

He also stated that private automobiles will continue to be authorized to pick up passengers from inside the terminal, but they will only be permitted to wait for a brief period of time.

“Private vehicles are permitted to pick up anyone from within the premises, although a time limit has been set. They may only wait between 6 and 8 minutes. This would allow travelers to pick up senior citizens, pregnant women, toddlers, and others with physical disabilities. In light of these considerations, we have permitted personal pickup from within the premises,” he added.

The mall can accommodate 1,000 four-wheeled automobiles and 1,000 two-wheeled vehicles. Ola and Uber pick-up zones have been established on the second floor of the parking lot. The freshly constructed pedestrian bridge connecting the airport to the shopping center will facilitate passenger access to the facility.

Increased Passenger Safety

The aviation mall was constructed using cutting-edge technology, which, according to airport officials, will boost passenger safety. “Facilities such as automatic entry, license plate readers, and facial recognition will boost the safety of passengers at the Aero Mall by capturing all pertinent information about the driver and passengers. When a car enters an area, the license plate information will be collected. In addition, the timings of entry and exit will be recorded. Therefore, it will naturally boost the safety of airport passengers, as stated by the airport director.
