Pune, October 04, 2026: The monsoon season in Pune has just ended with IMD declaring the complete withdrawal of monsoon from Pune and Mumbai on October 03, 2026.
However this year’s monsoon has been far from ordinary. It was characterized by extremes, in terms of extended dry spells and excessive rainfall concentrated across just a few days.
Here are some interest facts about Monsoon 2026 in Pune
- Delayed Arrival and Early Departure: The monsoon arrived a full 14 days late and retreated 5 days early, making it one of the shortest monsoon seasons, lasting only 164 days against a normal of 181 days.
- Despite shorter duration and erratic pattern, the monsoon dumped 736 mm rain in Pune city against a normal of 650 mm.
- This year, Pune experienced its driest first half of June in 68 years. The city recorded 83% rainfall deficit by mid June.
- Tamhini Ghat become the first weather station in the Sahyadris and the country to cross 9000 mm rainfall. This is the third time in a row that Tamhini crossed 9000 mm rainfall during monsoon season.
- On July 05, Lonavala received once-in-a-thousand years rainfall at 670 mm in 24 hours.
- Pune received two months worth of drinking water in just 24 hours rain between July 6 and 7. The city also received five months of drinking water in just one week’s rainfall between July 3-9.
