Monsoon Withdraws From Pune and Mumbai, Days Before Normal Date
Pune, October 03, 2026: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon 2026 from many parts of Maharashtra, including Pune and Mumbai.
This year, the monsoon has made an early retreat from Pune. Against the normal withdrawal date, lying between 5th to 10th October, the rainy season has exited Pune and Mumbai a few days earlier.
This year’s monsoon season has been short as compared to other years. The monsoon made a delayed onset in Pune on June 22, a full 14 days later than the normal date of onset. This caused the driest first half of June in Pune since 1958. The city had registered an 83% rainfall deficit by mid June.
With a late arrival and an early exit, the rainy season has lasted only 164 days in Pune against a normal of about 181 days, causing a deficit of about 17 days of rainy days.
Barring a few regions in southern and eastern Maharashtra, the monsoon has exited the rest of the state on October 03, 2026.
Pune received 736 mm of rainfall this monsoon which is above normal for the city. The normal rainfall for Pune is around 650 mm during the monsoon season. However the situation is not so good for the entire state of Maharashtra where overall there is a rain deficit of about 18 percent. The state government has announced drought relief measures in 265 talukas covering almost 75 percent of the state.
Pune Sweats in October Heat
With the cloudy skies and cool breezes of the monsoon gone, the city is experiencing rising heat for the last few days. The daytime temperatures have started soring to 35 degrees and the temperatures during the night do not fall below 23-24 degrees.
