Pune: Maha-Metro targets to complete Pune Metro by December this year
PUNE, June 13, 2023: Maharashtra Metro Railway Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) has set a deadline of December 2023 for the completion of all metro work within the city of Pune, according to officials.
Previously, in a review meeting during the first week of April, guardian minister Chandrakant Patil had given Maha-Metro an initial deadline to complete the work by the end of April. However, the metro work remains incomplete.
The Commissioner of Metro Railway Security (CMRS) has already conducted the first inspection of the Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic metro stretch, with a second visit scheduled to occur soon.
Hemant Sonawane, Public Relations Officer of Maha-Metro, has indicated that upon receiving the completion certificate, passenger service will commence between Garware and Ruby Hall Clinic. Regarding the progress at the elevated metro stations between the aforementioned stretch, Sonawane confirmed, “One staircase of the elevated stations has been completed. Passenger service can be initiated on these stations as they have lifts and escalators.”
Post completion of the Garware to Ruby Hall Clinic stretch, Maha-Metro plans to shift focus on the Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi stretch. Sonawane also noted the staircase work currently underway at Bund Garden, Yerawada, Kalyaninagar, and Ramwadi stations.
The Pimpri Chinchwad to Swargate route consists of 16 stations in total, out of which five are underground including Shivajinagar, Civil Court, Budhawar Peth, Mandai, and Swargate. The underground station at Shivajinagar is prepared for commuter use, offering multimodal integration with easy access to Shivajinagar railway station, PMPML bus depot, and Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). It will also be connected to the Hinjewadi to Civil Court metro station.
“The work for Budhawar Peth, Mandai, and Swargate stations is still pending. We will complete it by October-November,” clarified Sonawane. As Pune awaits the completion of this ambitious metro project, Maha-Metro remains committed to its new December deadline.
