Pune: Images | Ministry of Railways reports 55% progress on Pune-Miraj rail line doubling project
Pune, June 30, 2023: The Ministry of Railways has released an update on the Pune-Miraj rail line doubling project, revealing that the effort is now 55% complete. This ₹4819 crore project aims to significantly enhance the railway network, enabling more passenger trains to operate with increased speed and improved efficiency.
The 280km long Pune-Miraj doubling project has advanced substantially with the land acquisition phase fully accomplished. Under the leadership of district collector, Rajesh Deshmukh, the railway line construction is also nearing its completion.
Mr. Deshmukh articulated the potential benefits of the project, stating, “Upon commencement of railway traffic on the double line, speedy travel will be facilitated for farmers, traders, and employees, providing a considerable boost to the local economy.”
The additional line will also help reduce travel times, enabling perishable goods like agricultural produce to reach markets faster, thus minimizing loss and maximizing profits for local farmers. The dual railway line will help save crossing time and, consequently, increase the overall efficiency of the rail system.
The Pune-Miraj railway line covers a total length of 280 km, including 35 km within the Pune district. The railway department revealed that work on embankments, small and large bridges, railway crossing bridges, and underpasses are currently in progress.
