Pune, June 30, 2023: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune, has issued a yellow alert warning of heavy rainfall at isolated places in the ghat areas over the upcoming weekend. Mr. Ks Hosalikar, Head of IMD, Pune, indicates a new spell of heavy rain beginning from July 2nd that is likely to affect parts of South India and adjoining regions.

The yellow alert corresponds to a warning level advising citizens to ‘be updated’ for possible severe weather conditions.

“Rainfall is already taking place in Pune’s ghats. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution while driving through Lonavala and Khandala ghats,” warns Vineet Kumar, Research Scientist working on ocean-cyclone interaction and changes in cyclone activity globally.
